Dear Visitor, I would like to welcome you to the official website of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). The NSG is a group of forty-eight nuclear supplier countries that seeks to contribute to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons through the implementation of two sets of Guidelines for nuclear exports and nuclear related exports.

My country, Argentina, is proud and honored to have been entrusted by NSG Participating Governments to chair the NSG between June 2014 and June 2015, for the second time in the history of the Group. It is my personal privilege to carry out this duty, and I will do my utmost to build on the good work of previous Chairs, advancing the role of the NSG and the importance of our work to the non-proliferation regime as a whole as well as our bilateral and multilateral engagements over the next year.

My chairmanship started with a plenary meeting held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 26 and 27 June 2014, taking over from a very productive Czech chairpersonship (2013- 2014) during which a three-year review of the control lists of the NSG was successfully completed. The Buenos Aires Plenary confirmed, among other things, the firm support of the NSG to the full, complete and effective implementation of the Treaty on the Non- Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the intention of the Group to make a useful contribution to the 2015 NPT Review Conference. On that occasion, the Group also reiterated its deep concern over continued global proliferation activities and reaffirmed its determination to continue to cooperate closely in order to deter, hinder and prevent the transfer of controlled items or technology that could contribute to nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices, calling upon all States to exercise vigilance and to ensure effective implementation of all UN Security Council Resolutions relevant to the work and purposes of the NSG.

As NSG Chair, I will work with Participating Governments to ensure that the NSG and its guidelines continue to effectively address proliferation challenges.

One of the important aspects of the activities of the NSG is outreach to third countries. In the coming months we will continue to pursue our efforts in this regard. The NSG calls consistently on all nuclear supplier States to express their responsible approach to nuclear exports by adhering to the NSG guidelines.

Thank you for your interest in the NSG and its activities. More information on the NSG, including the results of all recent Plenary Meetings, can be found on the website in the “Documents” page; and in an IAEA Information Circular document entitled “The Nuclear Suppliers Group: Its origins, role and activities.” (INFCIRC/539).

Ambassador Rafael Mariano Grossi,
Chair of the Nuclear Suppliers Group 2014-2015
